Interwoven Implements SOA with Release of ContentServices 2.0 to Provide Web Services-based Toolkit Enabling Integration to Leading J2EE and .NET Applications

SUNNYVALE, Calif.—July 21, 2003—Interwoven Inc. (Nasdaq: IWOV), a world leader in content management for the enterprise, today announced that it has delivered Interwoven ContentServices 2.0 SDK, the first comprehensive service-oriented architecture in the content management industry. ContentServices 2.0 provides easy-to-integrate, standards-based access to content management services such as task management, workflow, user access, project configuration, and versioning from J2EE and .NET applications - boosting productivity and reducing development costs enterprise-wide.

Embracing Services-Oriented Architecture (SOA) design principles, Interwoven ContentServices 2.0 uses de-facto standards, such as Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP) and Web Services Description Language (WSDL) to provide organizations with the flexibility to develop content-centric applications independent of platform or language. ContentServices 2.0 forms the foundation for the ContentCenter user interfaces launched today with Interwoven TeamSite 6.0 Content Server (see www.interwoven.cn/news/press/2003/0721sdk.html) and enables the integration of Interwoven content management with any application via Web Services.

Alloy, Inc. the New York area's 5th fastest-growing company, is a media, direct marketing, and marketing services company targeting "Generation Y," the more than 60 million boys and girls in the United States between the ages of 13 and 24. From its catalogs and Websites, Alloy sells third-party branded products directly to the youth market in key Generation Y spending categories, including apparel, action sports equipment, and accessories.

"As an online community with product, entertainment, and many other types of content, Alloy uses Interwoven to keep content fresh. We always seek ways to streamline internal processes and cut time and costs on the back-end so we can devote more time to servicing our customers," said Robert Bell, CTO of Alloy, Inc. "With the introduction of Interwoven ContentServices SDK 2.0, we anticipate taking immediate advantage of its easy-to-integrate access to content management services and leveraging them into our employee portal and other applications throughout our organization."

According to a Gartner Research Note (December 5, 2002), leading-edge enterprises have applied SOA for more than a decade. Although SOA is a best practice for large-scale systematic new application development in some industries, such as financial services and telecommunications companies, it has yet to become a mainstream practice across all industry verticals. An increasing emphasis on business strategies, such as multi-channel, and emerging technologies (for example, Web Services) are leading toward broader SOA adoption and the consolidation of SOA infrastructure standards.

ContentServices eases application integration, and with the adoption of Web Services standards, applications can provide a standards-based, cross-platform and language-neutral interface. Once a SOAP interface has been implemented, the service can be reused by any enterprise application. Adherence to WSDL standards enables quick generation of client-side code in any of a number of different languages supported by the .NET framework.

ContentServices SDK also uses the industry-leading SOAP server, Systinet WASP (Web Applications and Services Platform) to provide the SOAP-XML/HTTP access to critical content management functionality.

"By embedding Web Services functionality, Interwoven provides users with an easy-to-use, standards-based mechanism for integration and for creating an SOA," said Wendell Lansford, COO, Systinet Corporation. "Systinet is recognized as the leader in embedded Web Services, and we're very pleased to have been selected by Interwoven as their Web Services partner."

Interwoven ContentServices SDK 2.0 software also provides WSDL files for workflow, access control, and other content management services to make it easy for developers to integrate content management into packaged applications such as portals, CRM, ERP, and any custom applications.

"In order to achieve low-cost, fast, and flexible application integration on the back-end, enterprises are starting to move in the direction of enabling multi-channel business applications with a services-oriented architecture," said Jack Jia, senior vice president and CTO at Interwoven. "Interwoven 6 is the industry's first content management platform to adopt a SOA, and with its easy-to-use interface, workflow, versioning, and publishing capabilities, Interwoven 6, together with leading ContentServices technology, gives organizations the power to access a common pool of content management services across any number of applications enterprise-wide."

ContentServices SDK 2.0 will be available in Q3 2003 as part of the Interwoven Developer Suite. For more information, visit http://www.interwoven.cn/products/developer_suite/.
