Interwoven ECM Enables Collaborative Business Document Management on HospitalConnect, a Health Leadership Portal, Resulting in Increased Organizational Efficiencies

SUNNYVALE, Calif. -August 20, 2002- Interwoven, Inc. (Nasdaq: IWOV), the leader in Enterprise Content Management (ECM), today announced the American Hospital Association (AHA) is using Interwoven to collaborate on and manage thousands of business documents on HospitalConnect, the Association's health leadership portal, which will include approximately 35 affiliate sites.

"HospitalConnect will provide a central resource for the health care field, providing hospitals across America access to critical information," said Herman Baumann, executive director for strategic development at the American Hospital Association. "Interwoven provides the portal with a collaborative enterprise content management solution that will scale to the needs of the contributors by centralizing all previously disparate information. Additionally, end-users will benefit from HospitalConnect as it enables quick, efficient searches and provides instant access to critical information."

Based on first quarter data, AHA's combined sites average more than 6 million visits a year. During these visits, users searching for specific content were forced to look through each individual affiliate site to find the information they needed. With Interwoven's ECM solution underpinning the new health leadership portal, end-users (i.e. hospital staff, patients, suppliers, laboratories and agencies) can find information from multiple sites in one search, leading to a more efficient and personalized online experience, improved patient care, as well as enhanced productivity across the organization.

According to a Forrester report published in August 2001, "14% of the average knowledge worker's week is burned up hunting for business intelligence." Interwoven has solved this problem as HospitalConnect users are now equipped to search one location for all content and, as a result, searches are more timely and efficient.

Prior to the Interwoven implementation, AHA and its related sites had varied content management systems in place. Work procedures and content were not centralized, and all affiliate sites maintained their own hardware and software. Many knowledge workers stored and maintained documents on their local drives and then sent change requests to the IT team, who would in turn create and post new content as needed. With Interwoven ECM, the publishing process is easy and streamlined. Content creators can collaborate on and share documents, publishing directly to the portal saving hours of valuable time daily and putting an end to third party formatting and publishing.

"With the launch of the new portal, it was important that AHA choose a content management system that not only allowed content to be easily added and updated, but also enables content collaboration across the enterprise," said Jack Jia, CTO of Interwoven. "Interwoven ECM can centrally manage all the portal's assets including video, graphics, code, and office documents within a centralized repository. This ultimately leads to increased operational efficiencies, a more productive workforce, and better organized content."

Working with Interwoven network services partner Qwest Communications International, Inc. and long-standing partner, Sun Microsystems, Inc., AHA's new portal provides critical data, such as regulatory information, best practices, research, educational materials, news and products to the entire health care field by connecting multiple health care sites. Using Interwoven ECM, content will be automatically managed, allowing information to be moved, rerouted, and grouped to meet the needs of each user. For example, users interested in the latest information available on the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) can search the portal and find articles from AHA News, helpful legislative updates from AHA, and HIPAA-related products from Health Forum. Interwoven also enables AHA to help hospitals meet government regulatory requirements by providing whole-site versioning and rollback, strong audit trails, and robust metadata capabilities.
