Former Chairman and CTO of Ajuba Solutions and other Standards Experts Join Interwoven to Lead Efforts in Open, Standards-Based Content Management

Sunnyvale, Calif. - November 2, 2000 - Interwoven, Inc. (Nasdaq: IWOV), the leading provider of enterprise-class content management solutions, today announced that Dr. John K. Ousterhout has joined Interwoven to lead its efforts in driving worldwide adoption of an open, standards-based approach for content management.

"Doctor Ousterhout is a distinguished pioneer and visionary in computer science," said Martin Brauns, president and CEO of Interwoven. "Interwoven feels privileged to add such an acclaimed scientist to help drive Interwoven's world class technology architecture."

In addition to founding Ajuba Solutions, recently acquired by Interwoven, Dr. Ousterhout is well known for his work in distributed operating systems, high-performance file systems, scripting languages, and user interfaces. Dr. Ousterhout is perhaps best known as the inventor of the Tcl scripting language while at U.C. Berkeley. Before founding Ajuba he was a Distinguished Engineer at Sun Microsystems and a Professor of Computer Science at U.C. Berkeley. He received a BS degree in Physics from Yale University and a PhD in Computer Science from Carnegie Mellon University. Dr. Ousterhout is a fellow of the ACM and has received numerous awards, including the ACM Software System Award, the ACM Grace Murray Hopper Award, the National Science Foundation Presidential Young Investigator Award, and the U.C. Berkeley Distinguished Teaching Award.

"Web content management is one of the most challenging and exciting areas of development in the Internet today," said Dr. Ousterhout. "Interwoven has the best content management technology by far; I'm excited about working with Interwoven's dynamic engineering team to extend their leadership."

As chief scientist, Dr. Ousterhout and his team will lead Interwoven's efforts in establishing next-generation open standards, such as XML, for content management in particular to support B2B, wireless and other emerging markets. Dr. Mark Hale, also coming from Ajuba Solutions, will join Dr. Ousterhout as a standards architect. Prior to joining Interwoven, Dr. Hale was a standards architect at Ajuba Solutions. Dr. Hale's experience includes being directly involved in the advancement of standards to facilitate integration where his most recent experiences include business process lead for the ebXML proof-of-concept working group, UDDI advisor, and loan processing joint liaison for IFX and MISMO. Dr. Hale received his doctorate in 1996 from the Georgia Institute of Technology.

Dr. Ron Daniel, who also joins Interwoven as a standards architect, was a Senior Information Scientist at Metacode before Interwoven's acquisition. He is co-editor of the W3C's XPointer specification, chairs the XML Linking Interest Group and is also a co-chair of the PRISM working group which is developing a specification for publisher's metadata. He was also a co-author of the first two Dublin Core metadata reports. Dr. Daniel received his PhD from Oklahoma State University and was a postdoctoral research associate at Cambridge University.

"We at Interwoven feel very privileged to be adding the talent that the Ajuba and Metacode acquisitions are bringing to our engineering and technology team, especially with renowned experts like John, Mark and Ron," said Jack Jia, senior vice president of engineering. "As the clear leader in content management solutions, Interwoven will continue to lead and set new technology standards for the best-of-breed open systems for our customers and partners."

Interwoven announced its planned acquisition of Ajuba Solutions and Metacode Technologies on October 20, 2000. See http://www.interwoven.cn/press/1020ampr.html for more details. The acquisition became final on October 31, 2000.
