Interwoven Backs Strategic Partnership with Equity Investment
in AlterEgo to Foster Solutions for Delivering Timely, Relevant Content Tailored
to Wireless Devices
SUNNYVALE, Calif.and REDWOOD CITY, Calif. -September 12, 2000. Interwoven,
Inc. (Nasdaq: IWOV) and AlterEgo Networks, Inc. today announced a strategic
alliance to deliver an integrated solution that will allow their joint customers
to create, adapt and publish enterprise Web content to wireless devices such
as Web-enabled phones, personal digital assistants (PDAs), or pagers. In conjunction
with the partnership, Interwoven also has announced that it will make a minority
investment in AlterEgo.
Under the terms of the agreement, Interwoven and AlterEgo will integrate elements
of AlterEgo's adaptation technology with Interwoven's enterprise-class content
management system in order to optimize delivery of "intelligent" wireless Web
content. The integrated solution is expected to ship in Q1 2001. Together, Interwoven
and AlterEgo are working to ensure that companies can effectively extend their
Web content to customers, partners and employees, who choose to access information
via Web-enabled phones or PDAs.
"Enterprise-class content management will be a requirement in any meaningful
wireless initiative, and Interwoven has identified the unique challenges that
the wireless channel presents to enterprise development efforts," said Richard
Ling, CEO of AlterEgo Networks"Customers will benefit from Interwoven's industry-leading
TeamSite solution and experience in servicing marquee enterprise clients. Together
we will bring timely, relevant content to an increasingly mobile eBusiness environment."
"Our enterprise clients recognize that in order to maximize their outreach
to customers and partners, they must leverage their corporate networks and customer-facing
Web content to reach wireless devices," said Martin Brauns, president and CEO
of Interwoven. "AlterEgo's Adaptive Network, combined with Interwoven's intelligent
content management solutions, will allow enterprises to publish content to any
device type, using any wireless standard, significantly extending their eBusiness
channels."
Investment in AlterEgo Builds on Interwoven Wireless Initiative
The Gartner Group predicts there will be four times as many mobile phones and
handheld computers as desktop systems by 2005, indicating that for many people,
wireless devices will become the preferred channel for accessing corporate eBusiness
sites. Interwoven's strategic partnership and equity investment in AlterEgo
builds on its commitment to delivering world-class solutions for enabling wireless
access to eBusiness content. In July 2000, Interwoven acquired wireless software
start-up Neonyoyo and established a new Wireless Division to enhance and accelerate
its wireless content management offering.
"Interwoven's leading eBusiness customers are turning to us to extend their
Web production to include the wireless Web. We believe that AlterEgo will play
a major role in addressing the network requirements associated with bringing
content to a mobile workforce," said John Van Siclen, vice president of corporate
development for Interwoven. "We are pleased to support the continued growth
of this wireless Web innovator through our minority investment."
