Industry-Leading Enterprise Web Production System Enables Decentralized Contribution with Centralized Control

Sunnyvale, Calif., March 15, 1999 -- Interwoven, Inc., the leading provider of systems for Enterprise Web Production (EWP), today released version 3.0 of its flagship product TeamSite . TeamSite 3.0, with its new SmartContext Editing feature, makes it simple for everyone in the enterprise - with little or no training - to put his or her knowledge on the Web.

SmartContext Editing
With SmartContext Editing, any knowledge worker who can navigate a Web site can now contribute content. SmartContext Editing allows corporate users to work in their familiar Web browser environment, with a customizable interface so simple that it requires no special training. Non-technical content contributors can intuitively determine which Web pages and individual elements they are allowed to edit, easily make and view changes and quickly submit their finished product for approval.

"Our customers, all of them Web innovators, know that their competitive edge depends on leveraging the talent and know-how of the entire organization into their Web production process," said Interwoven's president and CEO Martin Brauns. "This can only be accomplished if a Web production system offers both secure workflow and an easy-to-use interface for the knowledge workers - and those are TeamSite's strengths."

TeamSite Templating
TeamSite 3.0 integrates TeamSite Templating with SmartContext Editing in a streamlined solution that allows non-technical users to easily edit content within a template directly from the browser. With TeamSite Templating, users can select images from a default gallery of images, to insert directly into their templates. As with previous versions of TeamSite, content contributors can immediately see how their template-based Web page will look to end-users.

Decentralized Contribution with Centralized Control
TeamSite 3.0 incorporates all of the advanced features of previous TeamSite versions, while providing the capability to support a much broader base of Web contributors. Large organizations can now redirect scarce technical resources to their highest-value use: Web site application development and maintenance. With TeamSite 3.0, Web site administrators can create separate development branches and manage tailored workflow, while insuring central quality control, editorial consistency and smooth technical integration with best-of-breed solutions.

In an enterprise setting, central control of the Web production process is essential: it speeds time to Web and reduces errors such as untimely deployment of content or non-functioning applications. At the same time, the decentralized contribution provided by TeamSite 3.0 enables large organizations to harness the power of the Web in bold new ways for true business benefits.

"Interwoven TeamSite empowers every member of our group to be a Web contributor," said Bahman Sorhabi, Sr. Manager of Customer Support at Cisco Systems. "The SmartContext Editing feature in TeamSite 3.0 will allow hundreds of our support personnel to easily communicate their expertise via our Web site, dramatically enhancing customer service and operations efficiency."
