SUNNYVALE, Calif., July 19, 1999 - Interwoven, Inc., a leading supplier of content management software for the enterprise Web, today announced that TechRepublic, the IT community hub, has selected its flagship product, TeamSite, for development and management of its rapidly changing IT Web site. TechRepublic, which bases its site on Art Technology Group's (ATG) Dynamo product suite for managing customer relationships online, chose Interwoven TeamSite for its seamless integration with Dynamo, as well as its ease of use and ability to streamline the company's Web workflow process. The expanded, highly customer-focused TechRepublic site launches today.
TechRepublic provides articles and information, updated several times a day, to IT professionals including CIOs, administrators, support professionals and training managers. Much of the site's content is provided by contributors who work remotely, creating articles in Microsoft Word. These articles must be routed through a series of editors for revision and approval before the content is finally deployed to the Web. With near-constant updates, TechRepublic required a content management solution with intuitive and robust workflow capabilities, as well as easy remote access.
TeamSite provided TechRepublic with an ideal solution to its workflow problem. With enterprise-class features such as versioning, site roll-back and security, TeamSite has significantly increased TechRepublic's Web productivity.
"Interwoven has substantially reduced the production bottlenecks that used to limit our 'time-to-Web,'" said Jit Agarwal, vice president of the Web Product Group at TechRepublic. "Our Web site offers communities of IT professionals the most up-to-date information available, so speed and efficiency are critical to our success. Implementing TeamSite saved us at least two months in our production cycle because it already provided the built-in features that we needed and it allowed us to integrate the tools and processes we already had."
TechRepublic required a Web production platform which could incorporate its existing tools and custom scripts. For example, TechRepubic has a custom script which translates Microsoft Word style sheet information into HTML metadata. This allows TechRepublic to maintain a consistent look and feel between Word and Web. TeamSite seamlessly integrated this script and it extended its viability by archiving and versioning all the keyword metadata. This will allow TechRepublic to repurpose or syndicate its Web content based on metadata.
"Time to Web is obviously critical for us" commented Agarwal. "Our current contributor base of 50 will be 150-200 by the end of the year. We needed a browser-based production platform that would accommodate a rapidly expanding, international contributor base with a minimum of training."
The TechRepublic Web site is based on ATG's Dynamo Application Server and Dynamo Personalization Server, which provides a high-capacity Web platform for enterprise eCommerce as well as content targeting and customer management. TechRepublic expects to deliver highly customized information and services to its subscribers. Dynamo's open architecture and seamless integration with Interwoven TeamSite allowed TechRepublic to easily add TeamSite to its existing Web infrastructure, thereby maximizing its Web investment.
Joe Ruck, vice president of marketing for Interwoven, said, "On the Web, the winners will be those companies that offer compelling information and services which allow them to solidify customer loyalty. eBusiness innovators like TechRepublic obtain real competitive advantage through Interwoven's content management platform."
In addition to using TeamSite, Tech Republic will rely on Interwoven OpenDeploy to provide secure, rules-based Web content replication across multiple servers. When TechRepublic expands its Web development team into West and East Coast operations, OpenDeploy will play an even greater role in content replication and coordination in the increasingly distributed production environment.
